When choosing a V-type knife, the following parameters are crucial:
V Angle (Included Angle): The angle of the blade cone. This is the most important parameter!
Small angles (e.g. 30°, 45°, 60°): The knife is sharper, the engraved lines are thinner, but the tip is also more fragile. Suitable for very fine engraving and small lettering.
Large angles (e.g. 90°, 120°): The knife tip is stronger and the engraved lines are wider. Suitable for large letters, reversed angles and grooves, better durability.
Tip Diameter: refers to the width of the tip. It is usually very small (e.g. 0.1mm, 0.2mm), which determines how fine the details can be carved. The smaller the tip is, the more fragile it is.
Cutting Diameter: The diameter of the specific position above the tip of the knife (such as the end of the blade length) determines the maximum opening width of the V-groove.
Cutting Length: Determines how deep the V-groove can be engraved.
Material:
Total carbide: mainstream choice, wear-resistant, long life, suitable for high-frequency use and a variety of materials (wood, plastic, acrylic, soft metals).
High speed steel (HSS): inexpensive, but easy to wear, only suitable for occasional processing of soft materials.
With diamond coating: used for processing highly abrasive materials, such as carbon fiber, G10, PCB board.
