Flat End Mill
The most common type is a flat bottom blade.
Purpose: Milling flat surfaces, square grooves, steps, and vertical sidewalls.
Ball Nose End Mill
The bottom blade is hemispherical.
Purpose: 3D surface processing, carving, milling inner corners. It is the preferred choice for molds and complex shape processing.
Bull Nose/Corner Radius End Mill
The bottom edge has rounded corners (not a complete hemisphere).
Purpose: Milling cavities or sidewalls with rounded corners, more wear-resistant than flat head knives, and less prone to blade breakage.
Chamfer End Mill
The blade has a conical shape.
Purpose: Specially used for chamfering.
Rough End Mill/Hogger
The cutting edge is wavy or serrated.
Purpose: Quickly remove large amounts of materials. The wavy design can break the chips, reduce cutting force, and allow for a larger cutting amount, but the machining surface is rough and requires the use of precision milling cutters.
